CID Residential Stone Award winner feature lavish use of Daltile stone products

The New American Home gives building-industry professionals an opportunity to view design trends, construction techniques and materials that can be used in any new or remodeled home up close and personal. Daltile was a sponsor and donor to this project.

The New American Home (TNAH) is a yearly event that honors great American architecture and looks forward to the future of home building by utilizing the industry’s latest trends and technologies. Now in its 29th year, The New American Home (TNAH) is constructed in conjunction with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) International Builders’ Show – this year near Orlando. Fla.

The 2012 home hearkens back to the 60s and 70s Classic White Box homes, paying tribute to an iconic and classic style in a modern and updated way.

It’s a celebration of design as well as a showcase for new techniques and trends forecasted for the upcoming year – including a number of stunning products from donor and proud sponsor Daltile. It enables brands and industry leaders to collaborate and learn from one another for the good of the community.

The 2012 home hearkens back to the 60’s and 70’s Classic White Box homes, paying tribute to an iconic and classic style in a modern and updated way. Drawing inspiration from Le Corbusier and Richard Meier, it highlights streamlined design with a modern twist. Moveable glass panel walls and motorized screens allow indoor and outdoor spaces to flow into each other. Daltile products featured in the house support a modern, clean feeling.

“We are so excited to once again partner with this innovative and futuristic project,” said Tisha Stratford, Daltile associate brand marketing manager. “The New American Home allows the building industry a sneak peek at all the up-and-coming trends in the industry. We are thrilled that Daltile has the wonderful opportunity to showcase our newest products for the design community to see.”

Striking Daltile products were used as focal points throughout the house, such as the durable and sleek Limestone Chenille (White L191 4×36-Vein-Cut) in polished and honed finishes on the lanai, front porch, family room, kitchen, staircase, landing, studio, pantry, patio, dining room, gallery, bedroom, powder bathroom, office and laundry room. The limestone gives the house a calm and balanced feeling, while creating durable surfaces. In the master bathroom and master laundry room, Marble Calacatta (Gold M475 18×18 – Honed) adds an air of luxury and tranquility. Granite Baltic (Brown G704) is the anchor of the fireplace as the slab.

CID Awards Residential Stone winner

In fact, the lavish and lovely use of stone in this project earned Phil Kean Designs, Inc., and installation contractor Girem Tile Works the Residential Stone Award, one of the Coverings Installation Design (CID) Awards sponsored by TileLetter and TADA magazines and presented in April at Coverings 2012 in Orlando.

Kean wanted to honor the architecture of the past while taking advantage of current technologies and design trends. At 4,181 square feet, the home is the smallest in The New American Home series in many years. It displays a two-bedroom floor plan that appeals to empty nesters, with four additional rooms that could be converted to bedrooms if needed.

Building TNAH, even after 29 years can still have its surprises. “We were on a time crunch and Daltile was extremely helpful by sending samples of materials they had in stock that they recommended based on the colors we were using in the house,” said Amy Thresher, director of marketing for Phil Kean Designs, Inc., “From the samples we chose the limestone, which ended up being the better choice and one of our favorite products.”

Sustainability story

One of the major aspects of the home is its sustainability. Incorporating products and technologies that meet the latest green standards in every aspect of the home’s design is a high priority for the TNAH crew.

This year the home came through in magnificent style. The following 2012 certifications were awarded to the home:

  • National Green Building Standard “Emerald Status”
  • US DOE’s Energy Star
  • FGBC (Florida Green Building Coalition) Platinum certification
  • Florida Yards and Neighborhoods designation
  • Florida Water Star designation Progress
  • Energy Home Advantage Program
  • US DOE’s Builders Challenge
  • USGBC

Thanks to all who were involved, the 29th year of TNAH has been the best so far. Daltile is proud to be part of ongoing growth, innovation and creativity within the design industry and TNAH is a prime example of this kind of forward thinking.
